Bollywood taash parties and more

October 29, 2008 |11:00 | Parties  By : Team X

Raj Kapoor perhaps started it all. The master film maker used to hold such lavish tash parties, befitting his image that almost the entire industry would turn up for the parties. In fact, there would be so many of them that the place would actually start looking like one of those old taash parlours in Hindi movies.

Amitabh Bachchan held Taash parties for a while, and for reasons unknown decided to discontinue them after a while. His holi parties are better known, though.

After disappearing for seven years, he returns to coach the Indian women's team, leading them to a World Cup victory of their own.

The script won screenwriter Jaideep Sahni an award for best story, while Shimit Amin took best director and star Shah Rukh Khan best actor.

The film was among a raft of movies showcased at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) that broke away from the splashy musicals that have made Bollywood famous, in favour of tackling tougher issues in formats with a more global appeal.

Others present at the event included Nihalani's family, Suniel Shetty, Divya Dutta, Adnan Sami, Bappi Lahiri, Avantika, Rishi Rehan, Salma Agha, Meera, Sameer, Abbas-Mustan, Neelam, J P Dutta, Ravi Kishan, Danny Denzongpa, Hiten Paintal, David Dhawan, Poonam Sinha, Suneel Darshan and Shravan.

I love winning every time:SRK

April 22, 2008 |10:58 | Celebrities | Events | Gossips | Interviews | Parties  By : Team X

After defeating Hyderabad's Deccan Chargers Sunday at the Eden Gardens, the Kolkata Knight Riders and team owner Shah Rukh Khan were at the peak of their confidence about winning the Indian Premier League (IPL).

'I love winning - whether it's IPL matches or films or a game of carom with my kids or the entire world. I believe my victory is God's assurance that I really worked hard,' the superstar said.

'We are the toughest competition for the other seven teams. Why one team at a time-put all the seven teams on one side and see how the Knight Riders battle it out against them,' Shah Rukh told on the sidelines of a press conference after Sunday's match.

Does he not get nervous while his Knights are in action?

'Kolkata Knight Riders is my dream personified. I always wanted to be a cricketer. Now it's through my team that I am fulfilling my dream. I am possessive about my team. When my boys are playing I am worried throughout about their comfort. It's like seeing Aryan (son) take part in a race and praying that he wins unhurt.'

Did he spend Rs. 2 billion on the team just to fulfil his dream, or has he already started calculating his profits?

'Do I look so intelligent as to count my profit instead of shouting and cheering for my team?' he said with a smile.

'The team is divided into three sections - the cricket part is looked after by my Knights, I look after the entertainment section and my business partner Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta look after the administrative part. The latter will be the right people to comment on the profit.'

How was the experience of playing the first match at Eden Gardens?

'It's fantastic. Only Kolkatans can feel the true spirit of cricket. It's their overwhelming support that no tough pitch and power failure could come in the way of the victory of the Knight Riders.'

What is beyond the team motto - 'Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo' (Do, Fight, Win)?

'The Kolkata Knight Riders are here to teach the world how to believe and win a dream that no one else dares to do. Discipline, dedication and dignity are the three powers that are combined at every stroke of our bat and every throw of our ball,' he said.

Ash-Abhi To Celebrate Wedding Anniversary In Miami

April 14, 2008 |20:28 | Parties  By : Kaneta Babar

Wedding of Ashwariya and Abhishek seems like a marriage out of a fairy tale and now it’s going to be a year to their marriage and guess what? They are going to celebrate it in Miami when they got married they went to Venice for honeymoon now what next? A trip to the moon on their next anniversary I guess!  Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be in Miami for their first wedding anniversary next week. Not that they planned so. "It just happened," says Amitabh Bachchan. "Abhishek is shooting in Miami for 'Dostana' on their marriage anniversary. And Aishwarya is going to be with him," Amitabh Bachchan told IANS. "We'll get them by a new technology called skyscape to speak from Miami to mediapersons in Mumbai at the launch of 'Sarkar Raj' - which happens to be on the same evening as their wedding anniversary," he said. "Sarkar Raj" director Ram Gopal Varma says it was just a coincidence that the unveiling of his film will take place the same day.  "I didn't even remember it was Abhishek and Aishwarya's wedding anniversary on April 20. We decided to do the First Look party of 'Sarkar Raj' on this day because it was six weeks before the release," said Varma.  "It's just a coincidence. I don't keep track of anyone's birthdays and anniversaries, not even mine."Ramu is excited about something else too. "This is the first time the actors of an Indian film will be connected to the media via satellite. We're doing it through a technology known as skyscape. I think it's very exciting to reach out by modern technology in this way. Aishwarya and Abhishek will be live from Miami in Mumbai." However, Big B will be present at the Mumbai event. Tell Ramu that the "Sarkar Raj" event will be eclipsed by the excitement over its lead pair's wedding anniversary, and he shrugs. "It doesn't matter. We cannot separate Abhishek and Aishwarya's life from 'Sarkar Raj'. Very soon after the First-Look event we'll have the music release. T-Series is releasing the music soundtrack."

SAIF - KAREENA MARRIAGE AFTER 'TASHAN' RELEASE?

April 10, 2008 |11:17 | Celebrities | Events | Gossips | Interviews | Parties  By : Team X

One of the Bollywood's hottest couples - Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor - is anxiously awaiting for their first release 'Tashan' post their affair. Incidentally, their love blossomed during the making of this movie and might result in their marriage after its release. Though Kareena is quite outspoken, her producer Aditya Chopra has warned her not to talk about the film. It seems Yash Raj believes in keeping things under wrap. Needless to say that the couple has turned out to be a unique selling proposition of the film and Yash Raj is using this hot couple for the promotion of their film. This is enough to create curiosity among Saif and Bebo's fans.

Though the couple has always denied their early marriage report; it seems the buzz will certainly help their first film 'Tashan'. However, the release of the movie depends on the decision either to include or do way with a particular scene of the bikini-clad Kareena Kapoor (who shed huge weight to look ultra-thin in the film). There is a mystery about this scene if it's there or it's not there. On the one hand, it is said that Kareena asked everyone in the unit to leave the sets when she shot for the scene recently excepting the director, the cameraman and Saif. Another view is that Kareena refused to shoot the scene to maintain her girl-next-door image as the bikini scene may spoil her new image. We hope the producer as well as Kareena will decide among themselves about it sooner than late lest it loses sheen.

Bollywood on Femina Miss India's 'to do' list

April 9, 2008 |10:39 | Celebrities | Events | Gossips | Parties  By : Team X

It was the first time that the three winners of the annual Femina Miss India beauty pageant faced the press, but the girls sure had their lines well rehearsed.

Miss India World, Parvathy Omanakuttan says, "The feeling is yet to sink in that we have won the crowns. But, we are not letting that go into our heads."

Adds Miss India, Universe Simran Kaur Mundi, "The most important thing is that we have become known faces and the media is following us."

And Miss India Earth, Harshita Saxena has the last word. "The moment we were crowned, that's when you feel 'oh! my gosh', we are so close to reality."

While the immediate priority is to compete with other beauties across the globe for the international crown, there are no larger noble goals of world peace yet. For now it's Bollywood thats on top of the 'to do' list and as for the most wanted co-star, the wish list goes on.
